ENA September Newsletter
Dear Neighbors,
Our Evergreen Neighborhood Association (ENA) conducted our quarterly meeting on WEDNESDAY September 14, 2021 at 7:00 PM.
The meeting minutes are available on our website. Click Here
Highlights of the meeting included:
Making plans for a holiday party in December
Discussed concerns about eBikes and Scooters.
Ideas for improving the Evergreen park, including a bench
In the August newsletter we mentioned a recent accident involving teenagers on an eBike. The Board discussed and agreed there is a growing concern. Following the meeting we contacted LOPD for their thoughts. Here is their response and a link the OREGON MOPED, MOTORIZED SCOOTER, POCKET BIKE GUIDE Law.
Good Afternoon Mr. Newton,
Your message from this morning found its way to my inbox. I really appreciate you sharing these concerns and specific examples from our local neighborhoods in recent weeks.
I do share all of your concerns (and some observations as well) – the popularity of those electric assisted bicycles has seem to have grown recently, and with our many weeks of warm/dry weather, they are certainly out there more. I did pass along your message to our team members in uniform out on patrol and they will be on the lookout. They will continue to conduct enforcement activities when coming across these violations.
In the meantime, I am also going to get with our two School Resource Officers to make sure we continue to integrate cycling and traffic safety during their rounds in the schools conducting safety presentations and seminars. This is a great reminder on some areas we can emphasize as these modes of transportation continue to become more popular.
I have attached a nice resource from the Oregon Department of Transportation that provides a guideline for the rules and regulations around these alternative modes of transportation. I thought this could be a helpful resource for your association members and may answer any questions that come up regarding the laws that we enforce.
If I can be of any further assistance, please contact me. Thank you again.
Warmest Regards,
Jay
